You do not learn that a list is dirty until the campaign report comes back. By then the bounces are already logged against your sending reputation — and reputation is far slower to rebuild than it is to lose.
Lists rot quietly. People change jobs. Companies consolidate domains. An address that worked at your last send is a hard bounce at this one. The more engaged your list looked six months ago, the more confidently you will send to it now.

Valid — send.
Invalid — delete, not suppress. These are your hard bounces.
Catch-all or unknown — segment separately. Send to them on their own, watch what happens, and never mix them into your main send.
Role-based — fine for transactional and support lists, poor for marketing.
Disposable — delete, then add verification at signup so they stop arriving.

Should I delete or suppress invalid addresses?
Delete the invalids. Suppress the unengaged-but-valid.
Will cleaning improve my open rate?

Large CSVs are processed asynchronously and you receive the annotated file when it completes.
